Shubha

Shubha, Charcoal on Paper, (11" x 8")

I did this portrait drawing of my wife Shubha today afternoon. Sundays can get really lazy and it was quite a task to keep her from dozing away and drawing at the same time. :)
In the end though I think I have been able to capture a reasonable likeness.
All comments and critiques are most welcome.

Nicely done. What I liked most is you are true to the medium used - charcoal. Many of us use charcoal just like pencil but to my opinion true character of charcoal is to create masses by smudging and using very few linear strokes.

Thanks Ajay. I strive to do just what you said but the technique is still quite elusive to me. Hopefully I will get better with practice.

She's beautiful Vinayak. You do such gorgeous and sensitive portraits. You should do some more. :)

Thank you so much Crystal. My greatest fear is the unplanned sabbaticals that occur suddenly and force me to start from scratch every once in a while.
