Seascape and Watercolour Sketches

Ratnagiri Beach, Oil on Canvas, 18" X 24"
Did this one from a photograph I took at Ratnagiri on the Pule Beach. Awesome place to visit. The sea is always so amazing to look at and paint :) The photo of the painting though is not so good, with too much glare especially on the top left corner.

I also did a couple of watercolour studies recently. Doing watercolours after a gap of a few months, it felt like beginning from scratch :)

All critiques and comments are most welcome.

Moula Ali Yard IV

Moula Ali Yard IV, Watercolour on Paper, 14" X 20"
I have painted several times at this very spot. However, since this is part of a railway marshalling yard, every time there is something new. Last time it was a track repair machine. This time is was an old abandoned guard coach. I also love this place because there is little disturbance due to passers by.

I hope you are enjoying seeing my plein air efforts. Thanks for stopping by. All comments and critiques are most welcome.

Thank you so much for dropping by. All comments and critiques are welcome.

Rainy Day, Seminary Hills

Rainy Day, Seminary Hills, Watercolour on Paper, 14" X 20"
Seminary hills is a lovely place in my hometown, Nagpur. It has a lovely forest-ish feel to it with dense vegetation and if you are lucky you might see a herd (is that the correct word ?) of antelopes crossing the road. This painting was done from a photograph taken on a rainy day :) I kept spraying water every once in a while to try and maintain the wet look.

Moula Ali Yard III

Moula Ali Yard III, Watercolour on Paper, 20" X 14"
I love painting trains and associated stuff and so I find railway marshalling yards very interesting. This place is very close to my house and mostly quite deserted. Therefore painting en plein air is not a problem. It took me about 2 hrs to finish this. There were a few passers by who stopped for a while to watch me paint, but without creating any disturbance. All in all it was good fun coupled with substantial learning.

Behind Hanuman Mandir

Behind Hanuman Temple, Watercolour on Paper, 11" X 15"
We have a small Hanuman Temple in the premises of our workplace. Since phones, cameras etc are not allowed I had to do this from a small pencil sketch on a 2" X 2" paper and memory.I wish I had made the kalas (steeple) a deeper orange.

Secunderabad By-lane

Secunderabad By-lane, Watercolour on Paper, 22" X 15"
Hello everyone and thanks for visiting my blog. This is a painting of one of the inner lanes in the Ranigunj area of Secunderabad. In contrast with the overcrowded nature of Ranigunj this small place is quiet and peaceful. A walk through these lanes can be a source of infinite subject matter that essentially represent Hyderabad! :)

Koradi River Evening

Koradi River, Evening, Watercolour on Saunders Paper, 15" X 22"
Koradi river runs about 12 km from the city limits of Nagpur and gives its name to Koradi town on its banks. The town is the home to the 1080 MW Koradi Thermal Power Station. This place is very scenic with the beautiful river as it shimmers in the evening sun.

Sunday Plein Air at Moula Ali Railway Yard

Moula Ali Yard II, Watercolour on Paper, 10" X 14"

Moula Ali Yard III, Watercolour on Paper, 10" X 14"
We had a great time plein air painting this Sunday at Moula Ali yard. The day was a little cloudy and not too hot. Four hours of continuously working outdoors, this is the longest I have ever done at one stretch. I really look at these plein air sessions as opportunities to sort out specific doubts I face while painting indoors. That way I am not too disappointed if the paintings dont turn out well. :)
Thanks for stopping by. Comments andcritiques are most welcome.

Moula Ali Railway Yard

Moula Ali Yard, Watercolour on Paper, 15" X 11"
I go out plein air painting every weekend with a friend to some place nearby. This is my sketch from today morning done at the shunting yard near Moula Ali railway station.

We were a bit hesitant to lay out our stuff in such a place, as we thought someone might raise an objection. But to our surprise there was no disturbance whatsoever and we ended up with a peaceful and fulfilling outdoor session! :)

Sunday Morning in Sitabuldi Market

Sunday in Siitabuldi Market, Watercolour on Arches Paper, (22" X 15")
Sitabuldi is one of the major market areas in my hometown, Nagpur. Normally its very crowded with all the shops open and people buying and selling everything from clothes to shoes, to pencils to locks and even antique coins. Sunday mornings are an exception, however. Most shops are closed and everything is very quiet and peaceful.
