Self Portrait using a mirror

Self Portrait, Oil on Paper, 15" X 11"
Lately I have been trying to take every opportunity of painting from life, especially landscapes (I have always painted still lives from life). But when speaking of portraiture, you need someone else who is equally enthusiastic as you are (which, in my limited experience, is quite difficult). So I am planning to do a few more of these self portraits using a mirror in different lighting situations and orientations. That way I hope to ensure I will be in good nick when someone finally agrees to pose and wont disappoint them :). The likeness here is quite close, but not perfect.
Thank you for stopping by. All comments and critiques are welcome :)

This is a wonderful painting! It reminds me a bit of the American artist Harley Brown's expressive brushwork. Your portrait is alive and energetic .

I love the vitality in this painting and applaud your move into portraiture. Not easy, but I know you have the eye and skills to become very accomplished. Look how good this one is and you have only just begun...

I had to take another close look at your photo :) You have created a very good self-portrait, full of life! I look forward to seeing more of your works in this vein. Could you catch some time with your son when he's napping? That was one of the few times I could get my niece and nephew to be still enough to draw.

Painting from a mirror is really difficult Vinayak. It is difficult to believe that you are a beginner at this. Just fabulous.

Thank you so much Kathryn, I have tried that several times. Sometimes the pencil sketches come good. But its quite impossible with colour for now because he is steady for no longer than 6 or 7 minutes even when he is asleep :)
However, I have a cousin visiting us in a couple of weeks. I am hoping to be able to persuade him for at least 2 or 3 oil sketches. :)
